Quadraphonic Mixing on the 301

Anyone have any experience using the 301 on a quadraphonic sound system?

I’d like to try something relatively simple… maybe using my Befaco Joystick to pan one sound around. I suppose for that, I could build up that sound source in a global chain and then route it to a mixer on each of the 4 main with a VCA inside, linked to the corresponding axis of the joystick cv outputs.

If anyone has any quadraphonic 301 tips to share, would love to hear them!

i perform in a live quadraphonic modular improv trio.
I have used the er301 as a main quadraphonic mixer, mixing four outs (front left, front right, rear left, rear right) from each of the three modulars.
I did this before global chains were a thing.
i just put 4 mixers in each channel, and put the the three front lefts in chan 1, three front rights in chan 2, three rear left in chan 3 and three right rear in chan 4.
Its cool to be able to do things like put a different delay time on each of the four outputs in quadraphonic!

I like to modulate the intellijel planar with the WMD PDO as an LFO. its nice because you can modulate the phase offset of the waveforms, which when modulating the Planar, resultes in CV controllable rotational direction of the audio (in addition to frequency up to audio rates). so with the proper attenuation you can modulate the phase on the pdo with another sine wave lfo and it will ‘fade’ from a left to right rotation to a right to left rotation, with some really interesting patterns in between!

here are some live recordings from my modular quad trio group ‘Sample and Fold’
the quad shows are mixed down to two channels to make them soundcloud listenable.

I’ve been working on a quad spatializer for the ER-301, loosely based on the Buchla 227e, and the Serge Quad Locator. I’m testing out some different approaches to see what sounds best, and consumes the least cpu cycles. The goal is to have four independent channels that can be internally or externally modulated. If anyone wants to alpha test, I’d be happy to send the latest version. I’m redoing it for the v0.4.04 and later builds.

I’d like to try it!

Great–if you message me your email, I’ll send the next version as soon as it’s done. At this point, it would be helpful to have a few people to test some different concepts. Once it’s a more developed beta, I’ll post it in the forum.

I’m in! I’ve actually got a quad show coming up soon, so this could be timely.

I’d love to give this a go as my surround system is deployed.
